In the first of three presidential debates John McCain and Barack Obama took on the issues of economy and foreign policy.
The debate started off with Senator Barack addressing the economic crisis, at least that was what he was supposed to do. Rather than answering the question Obama cited the mistakes of the administration in the past ten years and claimed that he'd seen it coming and had warned them.
Obama continued on this way for the rest of the economic portion of the debate. When the mediator finally became exasperated with his avoidance he asked Obama what his stance on the economic plan was. And what was his stance? That's a fantastic question, one that Obama failed to answer in his response.
Finally the debate turned to foreign policy, McCain's fortay, a fact that did not go unnoticed by Obama. If he wanted to win he'd have to step it up. And sadly for those watching, he did.
When the issue of the Middle East was brought up Obama responded by saying, "If the United States has Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, or any other terrorist organization in our sight and Pakistan is unwilling or unable to help than we should take them out." You read that right, he publicly stated that he would "take out" Pakistan, our allies, if they didn't cooperate the way he wanted them too.
One of the best of his responses though was that of the tribute bracelet. McCain told the story of a woman he'd met at a town hall meeting last August. She'd asked McCain if he would wear a bracelet with her son's name on it, Matthew Stanley who'd been killed at 22 in combat in Baghdad. Obama responded with, "I've got a bracelet too!" A bracelet for a sergeant whose name he couldn't recall for a few moments.
By the end of the debate Obama had amassed a large number of stupid responses and McCain had spent much of the debate laughing at him and trying to correct his mistakes. For his closing statement Obama gave his most unintelligent remark of the night. "We are less respected now than we were 8 years ago, even 4 years ago." What?! He chose to end the debate by telling us that our country is not great? And this is the man who wants to lead us?
It is pretty clear who won this debate. McCain! Yet the popular media is claiming that it was a draw.
Who do you think truly won?
